HubSpot Introduces AI Spend Caps, Seat Swaps & Pay-As-You-Go Billing

HubSpot announced new AI spending controls on October 15, 2026, giving customers account-level and feature-level credit limits, mid-contract seat-to-credit swaps, and a choice between prepaid credit packs and pay-as-you-go billing. The changes are detailed in HubSpot’s new AI spend controls. (hubspot.com)

HubSpot Adds Account and Feature Credit Limits

HubSpot now enables customers to set an account-level credit limit, with the default limit set at up to 50% above the account’s monthly credit allocation. Administrators can adjust that ceiling as usage changes. Customers can also set separate limits at the feature and action levels, controlling how much specific credit-consuming tools can use. (hubspot.com)

When an account reaches its maximum monthly limit, HubSpot pauses features that require credits until the next usage cycle or until the limit is increased. Feature-level limits work in the same way for the selected tool, which gives administrators a way to restrict one agent, workflow, or other usage-based capability without applying the same cap to the entire account. HubSpot’s credit management documentation also covers usage monitoring, notifications, and overage settings. (knowledge.hubspot.com)

Seats Can Move to Credits Before Renewal

The announcement also changes how customers can adjust their subscriptions during an active contract. Customers can swap unused seats for HubSpot Credits or another eligible seat type without waiting for renewal, allowing budget to move toward AI and other usage-based capabilities as team requirements change. HubSpot is offering two credit purchasing options: prepaid credit packs at a flat monthly rate, or Pay-as-You-Go billing for usage beyond the monthly credit allocation. The latter is intended for customers that want to start with a defined allocation and pay for additional usage only when credit-consuming work is performed. (hubspot.com)

Customers can also set a limit on their marketing-contact tier. If a contact database reaches that limit, the account does not automatically move into a larger tier. An administrator must decide whether to increase the limit or reduce the database instead. (hubspot.com)

This release is separate from HubSpot’s October 1, 2026, seats-and-credits pricing rollout for new EMEA customers. The October 15 announcement adds spending and subscription controls around credit-based usage rather than introducing another regional pricing migration. (martech.org)

Administrators deploying Breeze agents, credit-consuming workflows, or other usage-based features should review account, feature, and overage settings before increasing usage. A hard limit can prevent unexpected charges, but reaching it can also pause the automation or AI capability using those credits. (knowledge.hubspot.com)
